In the morning, after enjoying an open buffet breakfast at our hotel, we set off towards Turkey's oldest and most important Syriac Orthodox church. Before reaching the church, we pass through Midyat; however, we leave our visit here for later, merely passing by Cumhuriyet Square in a panoramic manner.
This square, located in the city center, is an important area where social events, festivals, and celebrations take place. There are cafés and restaurants surrounding it. In the square, we see the Midyat Clock Tower, built in 1889. Constructed in the neoclassical architectural style, this clock tower serves as both a time indicator for the locals and as a symbol of the bustling Cumhuriyet Square. After receiving information from our guide, we arrive at the Syriac church. Upon our arrival at the church, which was built in 397, we are welcomed by Syriac Orthodox guides.
The church is known for its impressive stone workmanship and rich architecture. It houses many historical artworks and sacred texts. Additionally, Mor Gabriel serves as the religious center for the Syriacs. After hearing local guides speak about the world's oldest remaining Syriac Orthodox monastery, we return to Midyat, known as small Mardin.
Our first stop is the State Guesthouse (Sıla Konağı), which has a history dating back to the Ottoman period. This house reflects traditional Mardin architecture. We go up to the terrace of the guesthouse, which has hosted many series. Here, we take beautiful photos, immortalizing different views with the local yellow-cut stone architecture before being given free time.
After our free time, we set off towards Beyazsu. Beyazsu is a region known for its natural beauty, creating a magnificent view when combined with the historical areas around it. With its natural springs and tranquil atmosphere, it is an ideal place to relax. We have our meal in a picnic area, described as a corner of paradise, with its cool waters. After lunch, we head towards Dara, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. Along the way, we see the Syrian border located in the Nusaybin region. This is an important border area in southeastern Turkey, with historical and geographical strategic significance.
While traveling on the bus, we get the chance to see the landscapes beyond the border. Accompanied by beautiful views provided by the sun, we will have arrived at Dara in about 40 minutes. In this ancient city located on the Silk Road, we will see the ruins of the world's first water dam and learn that in ancient times, people believed in the god Ahura Mazda of the Achaemenids, for which a series of fire temples were constructed. We will examine the remains of a castle (Daras Anastasiupolis), churches, bridges, water channels, cisterns, bazaars, rock tombs, and residential buildings.
These ruins, which were once an important settlement, draw attention with their impressive dungeons, churches, and cisterns. They offer a rich area to explore for history enthusiasts. Here, we will have the chance to see one of the dungeons, which is believed to have been used for prisoners throughout history. Experiencing this dungeon, which is significant both architecturally and historically, will provide us with an intriguing experience.
During the free time designated by our guide, the interactions we establish with the local people will demonstrate to us the hospitality of Mesopotamia. The contests to present delicacies will further prove the strength of tolerance and love in the region.

As we explore these, we may need to reconsider all the historical knowledge we have had until now.
After familiarizing ourselves with the Göbeklitepe archaeological site, we head towards Harran , which is mentioned for the first time in tablets from 4,000 years ago belonging to Kültepe, Mari, and Ebla. The first notable site is Harran Höyüğü , where we learn that the settlement dates back to the 5th millennium BC . After a short walk at the foot of the mound, we will see the Cennet Mosque (Mosque of Paradise), built by the Umayyad Caliph Marwan, and the remains of the first Islamic madrasa established in Anatolia (Harran University), before visiting one of the famous conical-roofed houses of the city.

After enjoying an open buffet breakfast at our hotel, we start to explore Gaziantep, the most developed province in the Southeastern Anatolia Region in terms of socio-economic aspects. Our first stop in the city is the Mosaic Museum, where mosaics recovered from Zeugma, named "crossing place" by Alexander the Great, are exhibited.
After examining the world-famous Gypsy Girl mosaic and other mosaics inspired by Greek mythology, accompanied by our guide's commentary, we head towards Bey Mahallesi. Known as one of the oldest settlements in Gaziantep, Bey Mahallesi has hosted many civilizations throughout history.
We note that the Armenians, who were active in education and economic life in the 18th century, formed the largest population in Bey Mahallesi, and the beautiful mansions they built are still talked about today. It's interesting to learn that Muslims and Armenians coexisted as "neighbors" in Bey Mahallesi peacefully until the early 20th century; structures like St. Mary Church (now Kurtuluş Mosque), the Old Church, Kendirli Church, and Çınarlı, Eyüboğlu, and Bey Mosques bear witness to this coexistence.
Our guide mentions that nearly all families living in the neighborhood at that time had musical instruments such as pianos and organs in their homes, and music echoed through the streets, reflecting the quality of life and economic status of the neighborhood residents. Nowadays, this neighborhood is completely devoid of Armenian culture, as the Armenian population has diminished to almost nothing.
We visit the Toy and Game Museum. This museum, established by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, is Turkey's fourth toy museum. It is located in a restored three-story building in Bey Mahallesi, one of the most historic places in the city, and includes a two-story cave beneath the historical building as part of the Toy and Game Museum.
The museum displays nearly 600 handmade toys produced between 1700 and 1990. This exhibition, which includes cartoon characters, dollhouses, and many other toys, revives our childhood memories.
Next, we head to the Atatürk Museum. In this museum located in the historical Bey Mahallesi, a replica of the place where Atatürk stayed and his personal belongings are exhibited. In the second section facing the shared courtyard, there are the Atatürk Research Library and the Oral History Research Room that narrates the Antep Defense. Here, a hall showcases audiovisual presentations of the heroes of the Antep Defense and examples of items used by the public during that time.
After that, we move on to the Panorama 25 December Gaziantep Museum. The paintings depicting events related to the Antep Defense are created by painter Aleksander Samsonov and his team. Personal belongings of the heroes of the Antep Defense are also exhibited here.
Later, we enjoy a meal at a local restaurant. After tasting the most delicious dishes of Gaziantep, we continue our tour from where we left off. While walking along the culture route organized in the city center, we will have the chance to see many museums and shopping places. Our first stop will be the Hamam Museum, which dates back to 1577 and is one of the most beautiful examples of Ottoman bath architecture and culture.
In this museum, converted to preserve the bath culture, various bath tools, customs, and beeswax sculptures are exhibited.
From the Hamam Museum, we visit the nearby Emine Göğüş Kitchen Museum. Gaziantep cuisine bears the traces of many civilizations. This museum aims to introduce the culinary cultures of civilizations and is Turkey's first kitchen museum. Many areas display local dishes.
We continue our walk towards the Zincirli Bedesten. Built by Darendeli Hüseyin Pasha in 1718, Zincirli Bedesten is one of the places where historical shopping thrived.
Next, we proceed to Bakırcılar Çarşısı. This bazaar is a center where handicrafts come to life. In its shops, reflecting the historical atmosphere of Gaziantep, you can find many items that take visitors back in time.
Then we reach Almacı Pazarı. This market is famous for its rich culinary culture and is filled with restaurants and street vendors where you can taste various delicacies. We allow for free time in Almacı Pazarı, giving visitors the chance to shop.
Finally, we reach Tahmis Kahvesi, a historic coffee house founded in 1635 and one of the important symbols of Gaziantep.
After taking a break here, we will have free time to buy beautiful yemeni shoes sold in the bazaars, local spices, and copper items that we can find in Bakırcılar Çarşısı. Lastly, we arrive at our hotel located in Gaziantep.
